Each day, I take time to quietly sit and "pray Peace" as we did in the Beloved Community seminary program. During this time, I will often pull 3 cards from the Praying Peace card deck created by James Twyman. I take these cards, which have a line or two from the different prayers, and allow Spirit to carry a message to me through them. These messages become for me a ongoing meditation that I focus on and bring my thoughts back to periodically throughout the day. On occasion, I will share those meditations here; like today!
The cards today were:
"The all-seeing Lord up on high who sees even the footprints of an antelope on a rock mass here on Earth." - Native African Prayer
"Give to everyone who begs from you, and of those who take away your goods, do not ask for them again." - Christian Prayer
"May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness - the children, the aged, the unprotected - be guarded by beneficent celestials." - Buddhist Prayer
As I contemplated the message from these cards, I remembered an old song that Bette Midler redid several years back called "From a Distance." One of the lines in that song states, "God is watching us from a distance." This, then, is the message that came through for me today:
Spirit (God, Allah, etc) sees everything, but he uses our eyes to do it! When you see someone in need, don't look away - see them with Spirit's eyes - see them as they truly are: spiritual beings, children of light and love. Share your Divine Love with them - hold nothing back; give it all! Let the Love that Spirit put in your heart fill your eyes and color everything you see. Fill yourself to overflowing with this Love, then let it pour out of you. Share it with your environment; fill your world with it. Then, we will all be wrapped in it and feel protected from those "trackless wildernesses" that seem so scary. When we realize that we are all a part of Spirit, we can truly understand that "God is watching us" and the distance isn't so great after all!
In Service & Gratitude,
